he Knights of Columbus is involved with many activities that benefit the Church and the Community. One of the activities is the annual Drive for the Mentally Disadvantaged. Each year the Knights throughout the United States collect donations to support the work of organizations that aid organizations that support the mentally disadvantaged community.

Our local group in Amador County is the ARC. This year, the Council collected about $2500.00. For over a decade, now, the Council has collected and donated over $40,000.00 for the Arc.

‍ As active members of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, the Knights of Amador County have participated in many activities that benefit the Catholic Community at the St. Katharine Parish Center as well as the two mission churches: Sacred Heart in Ione and Our Lady of the Pines in Pioneer. These include membership on Pastoral Council, ushers, readers, communion ministries, and many more.

The Knights have traditionally honored Our Immaculate Virgin Mary as our Patroness. In continuing this practice, the Council has initiating a monthly on-air recitation of the Rosary over radio station KVGC (96.5 FM/1340 AM). This will be on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. The Prayers of the Rosary will be recorded on the first Tuesday of each month following the 6:00 mass at St. Katharine Drexel Parish Center.

The Council also supports many of the Parish activities that occur throughout the year.

‍ One of the main activities in the past has been Youth Prison Ministries. However, the Preston facility has been closed and wards moved to their respective counties or other facilities. The Pine Grove site is still active and has communion service on a semi-regular basis. Along those same lines, the prison ministry now includes Mule Creek State Prison in Ione.

These ministries have been a source of pride for the Amador County Council as it continues to find more ways to make a difference in Amador County and the Amador County Catholic Community.

The Amador County Council’s Scholarship Program benefits high school seniors in our local high schools who are practicing Catholics. The Council looks forward each year to present a $1000 scholarship to a deserving student. For more information, go to the Youth Activities page.

One of the activities of Supreme and supported by this Council is the Knights of Columbus Wheelchair Program. This past year saw wheelchairs being delivered to the Sisters of Charity and their Afghan orphaned children program.
